Today, the City of Houston will honor America’s veterans with a downtown celebration that includes a ceremony at City Hall and the annual “American Heroes Parade,” which recognizes military service members past and present.
The celebration kicks off at 10 a.m. with an opening ceremony at Houston City Hall, where city leaders, veterans, and the public will come together to honor the contributions of the nation’s servicemen and servicewomen. KHOU 11 will broadcast the ceremony live on KHOU 11+.
Right after the ceremony, the American Heroes Parade will begin at 11:30 a.m., infusing downtown Houston with patriotic spirit.
The parade is set to commence on Dallas Street at Bagby, continuing along Louisiana to Walker, then moving over to Smith, and finally down to Lamar, concluding at the intersection of Bagby and Lamar. The route is anticipated to attract significant crowds, with people waving flags and cheering for veterans, active-duty personnel, and community groups as they march in their honor.
City officials urge residents to arrive early and make the most of the complimentary parking available in the Theater District garage on Walker Street. The city advises drivers to anticipate temporary street closures and traffic delays in the downtown area during the parade hours.
The yearly Veterans Day events in Houston have established a cherished tradition, offering the community a chance to honor the bravery and sacrifices of individuals who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
“Veterans Day serves as a poignant reminder of the commitment and courage displayed by our service members,” city organizers stated in a release. “Today is an occasion to unite and pay tribute to their dedication to our nation.”
The parade usually showcases local high school bands, ROTC units, and veterans organizations, with appearances by city officials and first responders. Spectators are invited to gather along the route and join in the celebration of freedom and service.

Federal officials temporarily shut down air traffic at El Paso International Airport after the Pentagon allowed Customs and Border Protection to deploy an anti-drone laser near Fort Bliss, according to two people familiar with the matter. The closure lasted only hours, but it stranded travelers and raised new questions about coordination between defense and aviation agencies.

Houston has already recorded six 80-degree days in 2026, and forecasters expect more this week as a February heat ridge pushes temperatures 15 degrees above normal. While daily records are unlikely to fall, highs could approach longstanding marks set in the 1960s.

Critics say the Montgomery County Republican Party steering committee's January 14, 2026, minutes promoted internal factionalism rather than coalition-building. The declaration challenges efforts to weaken local Republican women's organizations and criticizes law enforcement terminology. Montgomery County Republicans should prioritize unity, transparency, and voter involvement while seeking new leadership.
