According to police and fire officials, a Houston restaurateur is suspected of shooting and killing his pregnant wife and two small children before taking his life in their River Oaks home.
As per authorities, a babysitter found the deaths of Matthew Mitchell, 52, his wife Thy Mitchell, 39, and their two children, a 4-year-old son and an 8-year-old daughter, at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Although officials have not confirmed a timetable for the fatalities, they suspect the father killed the victims before shooting himself.
According to Houston Fire officials, someone discovered the youngsters in their beds, and investigators are still looking into the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
In Houston's restaurant industry, the Mitchell family was well-known. Thy Mitchell was a board member of the Houston chapter of the Texas Restaurant Association and co-owner of Traveler's Table. As a first-generation Vietnamese American raised in Houston, she developed a career in human resources leadership and had positions at a number of Fortune 500 businesses in the retail and hotel industries.
Traveler's Table co-owner and operator Matthew Mitchell came from a variety of professional backgrounds. He studied abroad in France, Italy, and at Oxford University before earning his degree from Emory University. Prior to entering the pharmaceutical sector as president and CEO of Texas Center for Drug Development Inc., he worked as a journalist in London, Paris, and New York. Later, more than ten years ago, he opened his first restaurant.
The family resided in River Oaks, one of Houston's wealthiest communities, which is well-known for its expensive residences and close proximity to the city's central business center.
The inquiry is still ongoing, and officials have not disclosed a motive. The authorities have not disclosed whether earlier reports or warning indicators existed before the tragedy.
A Traveler's Table spokeswoman did not immediately answer requests for response.
Although further information may become available as investigators continue to investigate the scene and examine the evidence, police have not yet disclosed any additional specifics.

Brett Ligon won a Houston-area special election for Texas Senate District 4, and voters also decided a slate of local races in Conroe and Galveston on Saturday.
