Hunters Creek Village, a small but prosperous community in Houston’s Memorial area, has been identified as the wealthiest town in Texas, according to a recent analysis by Stacker based on U.S. Census data.
The town boasts a median household income exceeding $250,000, distinguishing itself from other prestigious Texas communities like West University Place in Harris County and Highland Park near Dallas. The research revealed that 75% of households in Hunters Creek Village have an annual income of at least $200,000. In contrast, a mere 1.6% of families live below the poverty line—highlighting a significant difference from state and national averages.
Stacker’s analysis focused on towns with a minimum population of 1,000 residents and observed that Census data does not provide precise earnings figures exceeding $250,000. The report highlighted that "wealthiest towns" differ significantly from one state to another, shaped by local economies and industries.
Although major cities are frequently viewed as the richest due to their large populations of millionaires and billionaires, this ranking highlights the more diminutive, ultra-affluent communities that distinguish themselves within each state. According to a 2024 report by Henley & Partners, Houston boasts 90,900 millionaires, establishing it as the wealthiest city in Texas and the fifth-wealthiest in the United States.
Nonetheless, Hunters Creek Village's high median income and low poverty rate establish it as the epicenter of wealth in Texas, reinforcing its reputation as one of the state's most exclusive communities.
