Houston is now in the middle of Girl Scout Cookie season, the tastiest time of the year! Girl Scouts in the area sell their famous cookies online until March 23. Starting Friday, February 14, booths will be set up all over the city. A last-minute box of Thin Mints says "Be My Valentine" like nothing else, and Girl Scout cookies for Valentine's Day will not be a problem.
If you're not sure which taste to get, the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council (GSSJC) say that Thin Mints, Caramel deLites, and Lemonades are the three most popular. But people who like ToastYays!, the cookie that tastes like French toast, should buy a lot of them now because they will no longer be made this year.
In addition to selling tasty treats, the Girl Scout Cookie Program teaches girls essential business skills, and all the money raised stays in the community. "When a girl sells Girl Scout Cookies, she gains valuable skills and earns money to help her troop take on their next challenge," said GSSJC boss Mary Vitek.
In honor of the holiday, GSSJC held the Just Desserts event on February 5. Eight Houston cooks worked with Girl Scouts from the area to make creative desserts using the famous cookies. "These events make us more sure of ourselves as leaders," Girl Scout Cadette Emma said.
Over 39,000 girls in 26 areas are served by GSSJC, the second-largest council in the country. GSSJC.org can help you find a cookie shop near you.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and California Gov. Gavin Newsom both visited Houston last weekend for separate political events ahead of next year’s midterm elections. Abbott hinted at a fourth-term run during a Sunday night event, while Newsom energized local Democrats on Saturday amid national debates over redistricting and party strategy.
