Pet lovers packed NRG Arena on Saturday for Petco Love’s fifth Mega Adoption event, where more than 1,600 dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens were available for $35 adoption fees that include vaccinations, microchipping, and spay/neuter services.

On Saturday, NRG Arena buzzed with excitement as hundreds of pet enthusiasts gathered, all hoping to find their perfect four-legged friend.
Petco Love, the charitable division of the pet supply giant Petco, has launched its fifth Mega Adoption event, showcasing over 1,600 adorable puppies, kittens, cats, and dogs ready for new homes over two days.
For Houston resident Joshua Armstead, the occasion presented an opportunity to discover a “little friend.”
“To be honest, I was in search of a companion, someone who could meet many of my life's needs,” Armstead expressed. As he shared with the Houston Chronicle, “I came across this event on social media and thought it would be worth attending.”
Armstead shared that the adoption process was remarkably swift, lasting only 10 minutes, and he had the opportunity to engage with his new puppy, Rumi, before finalizing his choice. He noted that the inspiration for the name came from a character in Netflix's K-Pop Demon Hunters and the daughter of Beyoncé and Jay-Z, Rumi.
As the clock struck 2 p.m., a remarkable milestone was reached: over 400 animals found their forever homes since the event kicked off, as reported by Rene Morno, the chief of staff at Petco Love, affectionately dubbed “Petco Love Cupid.”
“According to Morno, this adoption event stands out as one of the largest in the nation.” “Petco Love focuses on saving lives, and this initiative provides an excellent opportunity to transition animals from shelters to caring homes.”
For just $35, adoptions come with essential vaccinations, microchipping, and spay or neuter services, making it an affordable option for those looking to welcome a new pet into their home. The event carried on until Sunday.

Dozens of new Texas laws take effect beginning in December, including the end of the STAAR test, over-the-counter access to ivermectin, and a law allowing private citizens to sue manufacturers who ship abortion pills. January will bring additional rules affecting app stores and immigration enforcement.

Most Houston drivers only think about collision shops on the worst day of their year. On Holzwarth Road, at a place called Axis Collision, the work of putting those damaged cars back together happens quietly, one vehicle at a time.
