Houston police are currently conducting an investigation into a late-night incident that involved gunfire and the assault of an officer. This disturbance occurred as authorities responded to a large gathering along the North Freeway, according to officials.

Officers responded to reports of a large crowd in a parking lot near Fallbrook at approximately 11 p.m. Saturday. Reports from the Houston Police Department indicate that around 500 individuals were assembled outside, with an additional 500 present inside the Cowgirls Bikini Bar during the incident.

Authorities reported that at least one shot was discharged during the event, causing a wave of panic among attendees. “The gunfire sent the crowd into a panic,” HPD reported, as individuals fled the scene in various directions.

During the response, an officer was assaulted. Authorities have confirmed that the officer involved in the incident sustained no injuries. No arrests in connection with the assault have been reported at this time.

Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the gunshot, with no conclusions yet reached regarding whether it was discharged intentionally or by accident. The circumstances surrounding the discharge are currently under investigation.

In the aftermath of the incident, the Houston Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the nightclub, resulting in an order for its closure. By 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, an ABC13 crew on-site reported hearing music emanating from within the establishment, prompting inquiries regarding adherence to the closure order.

A sign affixed to the entrance of the club indicated that it is a private venue that operates under a bring-your-own-bottle policy.

Authorities have yet to disclose further information regarding possible suspects or any injuries related to the recent gunfire incident. The investigation is still in progress.
