Texas election results: Brett Ligon wins Senate special election

Unofficial results indicate that Republican Brett Ligon defeated Democrat Ron Angeletti in Saturday's special election for Texas Senate District 4.

Approximately 75% of the more than 26,000 votes cast in the district, which comprises Chambers County and portions of Montgomery, Harris, Chambers, Jefferson, and Galveston counties, went to Ligon, a former district attorney for Montgomery County. The same two candidates will now compete once more in the main election.

Republican Brandon Creighton left to take a position as chancellor of the Texas Tech University System, leaving the position vacant.

On Saturday night, Ligon's campaign posted, "Landslide victory for Brett Ligon!!!" in celebration of the outcome.

According to Angeletti, the defeat was the result of low Democratic turnout and a lost chance in an area that has historically supported Republicans. He promised to continue campaigning and claimed that increased voter knowledge could have made the contest more competitive.

Angeletti told the Houston Chronicle in a statement that "there is a clear path forward." He declared that his campaign would continue to prioritize infrastructure, health care, and equity in school vouchers.

On Saturday night, local elections also took place in Conroe and Galveston.

Kristin Hoisington won Council Place 3 in Conroe with 60.34%, defeating Nick Vonas, who received 39.66%. Ken Blevins led Council Place 4 with 53.28%, followed by Jerry L. O'Neal with 19.66% and John J. Kessler with 27.06%. John Sellars defeated Kim Attaya (31.83%) and Kristin Guardino (9.6%) in Council Place 5 with a score of 58.57%.

John Paul Listowski dominated the Galveston mayoral contest with 60.27%, followed by Marie Robb at 36.74% and William Boike at 2.99%.

They also obtained clear margins in a number of Galveston district and city council elections. District 4 was dominated by Alex Porretto (74.12%), District 3 by Bob Brown (62.78%), District 2 by Jeffrey L. Taylor (54.69%), and District 6 by Jason M. Hardcastle (41.79%).
