Texas Fuel Prices Surge 52 Cents Amid Iran Conflict and Oil Spike

Texas gasoline prices rose 52 cents in a week to $3.13 a gallon. This surge is due to US-Iran tensions affecting global energy markets. After the U.S. The spike followed U.S. military action against Iran and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical oil shipping corridor.

Energy specialists say the recent geopolitical tension has caused one of the fastest gasoline price increases in years as oil markets prepare for global supply disruptions.

AAA reports that the state's average gas price rose from $2.61 last week to $3.13 on Monday.

GasBuddy, which tracks fuel prices nationwide in real time, has recorded similar trends and warned of instability, indicating that consumers may face even higher prices in the coming weeks if the geopolitical tensions continue to affect oil supply.

Gasoline prices have skyrocketed recently, one of the fastest increases in years. Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said this jump followed a spike in oil prices caused by U.S. military strikes in Iran and a near-total blockage of the Strait of Hormuz.

“Recent Middle East attacks over the weekend have driven oil prices above $100 per barrel for the first time in years, prompting fuel markets to quickly adjust to the potential for extended global supply chain disruptions,” De Haan said.

This week, gasoline prices may rise by 20 to 50 cents per gallon, and diesel prices may rise even more.

Industry experts say the latest spike is due to numerous overlapping factors.

Oil markets have added a risk premium to crude oil prices amid Middle East geopolitical tensions, thereby affecting gasoline prices.

Due to strict environmental restrictions, refineries are switching to summer-blend gasoline, which costs more.

Spring break travel increases demand and gasoline usage nationally.

On Sunday, President Donald Trump tweeted that rising costs are temporary due to military efforts.

Former President Trump said, “Short-term oil prices, which will drop rapidly when the destruction of the Iranian nuclear threat is over, are a very small price to pay for the U.S.A. and world safety and peace." “Only those without judgment would disagree!”

Texas gas prices vary widely. El Paso has some of Texas's highest fuel rates, averaging $3.36 per gallon, according to AAA. Beaumont–Port Arthur drivers benefit from lower average prices, around $3.00 per gallon.

“Drivers are starting to notice an increase in gas prices,” said AAA Texas spokesperson Daniel Armbruster. Due to geopolitical concerns abroad, crude oil prices are rising, raising gas prices.

The Middle East crisis and oil supply interruptions will likely affect prices in the coming weeks, according to experts.

Experts suggest that improving driving efficiency can reduce fuel costs. Motorists can drive steadily and avoid rapid acceleration while following speed restrictions, which improves fuel efficiency. Vehicle safety and performance depend on adequate tire pressure. Consumers can now compare local fuel prices using mobile apps.

Energy markets are sensitive to geopolitical events, and fuel prices may fluctuate in the coming weeks.
