Celebrating the extraordinary legacy of Mary McCoy, a legendary person in radio history, Conroe, Texas, plans to install a bronze statue on December 7, 2024—her 87th birthday. McCoy is the longest-serving female radio host in the world, having been a presenter for an unheard-of 73 years.
Unveiled at Founders Plaza in downtown Conroe at 11 a.m., the bronze bust honoring McCoy's accomplishments to radio and the community will lead the project. The Greater Conroe Arts Alliance notes the monument as a "permanent tribute" to McCoy's unmatched career. The Madeley Food Truck Park table will host a public birthday celebration at six p.m.
Born in Carthage, Texas, Mary McCoy started her path there in 1937. She began working at KMCO at barely twelve years old after arriving in Conroe in 1949 and fell in love with radio. She became a beloved voice in Conroe and beyond, earning national respect for her commitment to the airways.
