Banks Jr., a talented Humble, Texas, and Summer Creek High School player became the fourth Longhorn to achieve this prestigious award. Brian Orakpo was the last Longhorn to win in 2008. Banks Jr. was one of four finalists, alongside South Carolina's Kyle Kennard, Penn State's Abdul Carter, and Louisiana State's Will Campbell.
The Rotary Club of Houston founded the Lombardi Award in 1970 to recognize players who exemplify Vince Lombardi's moral attributes and remarkable ability. Proceeds from the annual dinner benefit cancer research and families affected by the disease, carrying Lombardi's legacy beyond the field.
