Warm and breezy weather will kick off the Easter weekend in Houston, but residents should prepare for storms and cooler temperatures by Sunday evening.

At the start of the Easter holiday weekend in Houston, it will be warmer than usual and very humid, but don't put away your umbrella just yet. The holiday will conclude with storms and scattered rain, followed by a cooling down.
Houston will wake up to mostly cloudy clouds, warm temperatures in the low 70s, and southeast winds blowing around 12 mph on Saturday morning. People attending the Houston Parks and Recreation's Easter egg hunt at Emancipation Park can expect pleasant weather. Temperatures are approaching 80 degrees, and winds can gust up to 20 miles per hour. The event starts at 10 a.m. The afternoon highs will remain in the low to mid-80s due to the clouds. This is a little cooler than Friday's heat.
The clouds are part of a more extensive storm system that is forming over the Southwest's deserts. This system's atmospheric changes are expected to move across Texas on Saturday, but they should not have a significant impact on Houston. In the afternoon, a few stray showers are possible, though.
The big storm moves into Texas and Oklahoma on Saturday night, which changes things. It will move northeast toward Missouri on Easter Sunday, pulling a cold front behind it. This front will move slowly through North Texas before it reaches Southeast Texas by Sunday evening. It will bring more likely showers and thunderstorms to Houston.
As the frontal boundary remains close by and interacts with additional weather disturbances expected throughout next week, rain and thunder may persist into Monday. With this set up, it might rain more than once before the end of April.
People who go to the beach should watch out for rip currents, especially near docks, jetties, and sandbars. If you get stuck in a rip current, don't swim against it. Instead, swim parallel to the shore, then turn around and swim back into the current. If you still can't get out, wave and yell for help.
Even though it might be rainy on Easter Sunday, you can still celebrate outside on Saturday. Watch the sky and make plans accordingly to ensure a safe and enjoyable vacation weekend.

Dozens of new Texas laws take effect beginning in December, including the end of the STAAR test, over-the-counter access to ivermectin, and a law allowing private citizens to sue manufacturers who ship abortion pills. January will bring additional rules affecting app stores and immigration enforcement.

Most Houston drivers only think about collision shops on the worst day of their year. On Holzwarth Road, at a place called Axis Collision, the work of putting those damaged cars back together happens quietly, one vehicle at a time.
