According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, Peralta was discovered in the complex's parking lot with several gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead on the scene. Witnesses reported hearing numerous gunshots before police arrived.
McDowell was detained shortly after the incident and put into the Harris County Jail. His bond has been set at $400,000. He is set to appear in court on August 5. In addition to the murder accusation, McDowell is charged with theft and has a bond of $210.
