Houston zip codes lead Texas in individual donations to Donald Trump and Kamala Harris’ 2024 presidential campaigns, with nearly $40 million contributed. Trump raised $20.1 million, while the Harris-Biden campaign garnered $19.5 million, according to data from the Federal Elections Commission.
According to an analysis conducted by ABC News and ABC Owned Television Stations, Houston zip codes continue to be the most generous in Texas when it comes to individual contributions to Donald Trump and Kamala Harris's presidential bids in 2024.
The data, obtained from the Federal Elections Commission's database of contributed campaign funds, highlights donations made between January 1 and August 31, 2024.
Over the course of this time period, residents of Texas contributed a total of $39.6 million to the campaigns of former President Donald Trump, Vice President Kamala Harris, and President Joe Biden. With Trump collecting $20.1 million and Harris-Biden generating $19.5 million, the donations were virtually evenly distributed between the two big campaigns. Trump received approximately $20.1 million.
Even though the contest for financial support was quite tight, Trump had more individual donors. When opposed to the 34,677 individual donors who supported the Harris-Biden campaign, his campaign received donations from 48,722 Texans, with an average contribution amounting to $50.85. This contrasts the Harris-Biden campaign contributions, which averaged out to $145.28.
After being found guilty on 34 charges of manipulating business documents pertaining to the 2016 election, Donald Trump received approximately $5.3 million in contributions in May, marked by a noteworthy increase in the amount of money contributed to his campaign.
A number of significant events, including the Democratic National Convention and Joe Biden's decision to withdraw from the race, contributed to the Harris campaign's most significant surge during the months of July and August. Individual donations totaling more than $12.6 million were received during those two months, which is equivalent to roughly two-thirds of the total amount of money contributed by Texans to the Democratic Presidential Campaign.
Based on the data, it is clear that Texas plays a crucial role in determining the presidential race of 2024, with Houston being the state that leads the way in terms of campaign donations for both parties.
